Why Is It, Saving Time Too Often Takes More Time?

April 12, 2011

We are in the process of opening new ground.  The last time the land was farmed was over thirty years ago so we figured we start with ripping the ground as deep as possible to break the ground up, reduce compaction, and provide for better root space

The ripping went along just fine with one ripper on the tool bar.  Yet, being in the hurry I too often am, I decided to go to another shank.  You know, twice the rippers, half the time, right?  Well, that didn’t work so well.  The second shank placed enough pressure on the toolbar that welds and metal tore.

Andy and Rebecca had come to the farm to help out for the weekend, which in light of my two shank-half the time idea, turned out great.  Andy is one of the two welders in the family (neither of the two being me).  So, with his help we (Andy) were able to get metal heated, bent, and welded!

Back to ripping!
